Klarus XT2C - FlashlightZ Opinion

It's time for another Klarus flashlight review. Today I'm going to be looking at one of Klarus' old favorites. This is the Klarus XT2C. What's great about the XT2C is that this light is absolutely simple. The interface is designed so that anyone can pick it up and start using it right away.
The switches on the tail are Klarus' patented dual switch system. What you've got, you've got yourself a primary switch, and you've got yourself a mode or strobe switch. One is the round, rubbery button, and the other is the more metallic, lever-like button. What's great about using those different textures is that it is incredibly easy to find which button you're looking for. Even wearing gloves, you've got the different shapes to clue you in on what your thumb is pressing on right now.
When you hit the primary mode switch, the primary switch, what you've got is instant access to the full brightness of this light, 1100 lumens, which is pretty standard at this point for tactical lights of this size. It's got a great beam distance, over 200 meters, so there's really nothing ... If you're just using this for any outdoor excursion, there's really not much outside of the useful range of this light.
While the light is on, you press the mode switch, you'll flicker through all the different brightness settings. The lowest is actually 10 lumens. Despite being a lower brightness setting there, that's actually close to what lots of standard lights you might pick up at the grocery store, at a convenience store, will give you. Now you've got 10 lumens, and because of the 18650 batteries that this runs off of, that'll last you a long time. If you're just using that lowest setting, using it for lighting up your tent at night, some late night reading, not only does it preserve your night vision, but it lasts. It lasts a long, long time. It'll last you 190 hours, which is an absolutely fantastic amount of time for such a small light.
The Klarus XT2C is very small. It's a little smaller than most tactical lights. The diameter's a little thin for most gun mounts, so this is more of a casual, very tough utility light more than a light that you're going to necessarily mount on your Bushmaster and use in a tactical sense. For what it is, it's fantastically designed. The fact that it's so small means that this is a very good everyday carry light. It can easily, easily fit in your pocket. If you've got a holster, that's even better. It can easily go in your purse, in a travel bag, in your camping bag. It's very easy to take this light with you wherever you go, especially when it comes with a nice steel clip. It's one of the accessories included here. It's absolutely no trouble to get this hooked on your belt and be on your way.
A lot of Klarus flashlights will have a side switch. This is very common even in simpler designs that Klarus puts out, like the ST series. The ST15 has both a primary switch and a side switch. With the Klarus XT2C, they've excised the side switch. They only want the dual switch on the tail. I think this was a smart decision. This really makes it a fantastic beginner tactical light because you go into that classic reverse grip and now you've got yourself instant access to everything. Because the light is so small, it fits easily in your hand. It's knurled on the body and at the tail, so it always feels good just to hold in your hand. That's no problem.
As far as the head, the head has plenty of venting. This is a fantastic feature on a light. Any light that produces 1,000 lumens or more, you're going to see a lot of heat coming out of that thing. You're going to see a lot of heat being generated by that sort of lumen output, so that can even be a safety concern if a lesser manufacturer is not careful in how they build these lights. That doesn't describe Klarus. There's plenty of venting all around the head, so you can rest assured that this light is going to last you a while because Klarus has provided plenty of heat dissipation for such a bright light.
The Klarus XT2C also does come with some nice accessories. I mentioned that it has a custom holster, which is included. Other minor accessories are also present besides the clip. It does come with a lanyard, which is a great way of just looping it onto your wrist or on some part of your clothing. Another great way to keep the light with you at all times. It really is made to just be as transportable and as convenient as possible.
It also comes with a split ring, so there is a place on the light to thread that ring through. If you wanted, you could even put this on your keychain. It might be just a hair bulky for that kind of purpose, but especially if you're doing a job where you're working security where you always, always need a light at hand, that should definitely be an option that could intrigue you.
It also comes with a spare o-ring. That's an important accessory. That really extends the light of your flashlight. Normally, you're not going to have to worry about anything because Klarus is very confident in their craftsmanship on these lights. They come with a five year warranty, a five year guarantee, so that's a great way to see that your value isn't wasted. The great thing about having another o-ring, if you're old o-ring gets worn out, if it starts having trouble ... What the o-ring is here is the gasket. They're a rubber ring that you've got just below the silver threading on the body. What this does, it gives a nice cushion as you're screwing in the tailcap. What that cushion does is it prolongs the life of the light, and it also contributes to the lights waterproofness, which I'll get to in a moment when I start talking about the light's durability. Having a spare o-ring is something that'll save you the trouble of having to have your warranty serviced and having to ship the light somewhere should anything ever happen to that o-ring.
That's the accessories. Looking at the beam itself, this Klarus flashlight just has an absolutely fantastic beam. It's an orange peel reflector, so you've got a lot of diffusion on the beam, so none of the light is wasted when you're trying to find something. I mentioned it's over 200 meters of beam throw. It's actually 243 exactly. It's a lot more than just over 200. It's 243.
Of course, all that brightness and all that throw does you no good if the light breaks. Luckily, this is not a light that should be breaking on you any time soon. The Klarus XT2C is an ultra, ultra tough flashlight. This is impact resistant at 1.5 meters. That means if you're holding it 1.5 meters above the ground and you drop it, and the ground happens to be hard concrete, it should still work. The body might be chipped a little, but the internals will be safe. That's some incredible construction from Klarus. 1.5 meters is the upper end of impact resistance for lights of this size. It's pretty great to see that they have taken the ruggedness of the light so seriously.
It's also very waterproof. It's waterproof in up to two meters of water. It's IPX8. That's what that's called. If you're walking around, you're getting into some shallow water, you drop it in, you're going to be good. You could drop this into an above ground pool and it will still work. You drop it in the above ground pool at night, you'll be able to find it because it'll still be on. No kidding. A very tough light. Aircraft grade aluminum body. You can run this thing over with your car and then throw it into the pool and it will still work. It's just an incredibly dependable light.
That's the Klarus XT2C. It's an absolutely fantastic beginner light. I myself got this when I was just looking into tactical flashlights, and that's part of why I so highly recommend it now to you, because it was just a fantastic, fantastic introduction to tactical flashlights in general. Easy to use and completely tough. If you're looking for a first tactical flashlight, if you're looking for a nice flashlight to have around the house just to help you out, absolutely take a hard look at this.
