Another fantastic EDC light from Klarus, the Mi6 is one of the brightest AAA keychain flashlights on the market. It delivers a maximum output of 120 lumens with a maximum beam distance of 40 meters. It’s less than 2.5 inches in length, so it’s a great size to put on your keychain, carry in your pocket, or in your bag. The Mi6 features a CREE XP-G3 LED and has a professionally designed Optical TIR lens that evenly diffuses the light for a good flood and soft illumination. With this lens, the flashlight is perfect for up close work and everyday carry. Operating the Mi6 is simple with its twist switch design. Rotate the head of the flashlight to turn it ON and OFF and cycle through the brightness levels. You have two brightness levels: high which is 120 lumens and low which is 30 lumens. Between both of these brightness levels, the Mi6 is ready for anything!

As mentioned before, the Mi6 is powered by a single AAA battery which is an inexpensive and easy battery to come by, making this keychain flashlight perfect for the beginner and seasoned user. It even comes with a AAA battery to get you started. The Mi6 also has reverse polarity protection so if you load the battery in incorrectly the battery and flashlight will be protected from any damage.

Moving onto the body of the flashlight, you’ll have a firm grip on the flashlight when you hold it thanks to the textured design around the head. The Mi6 is constructed from aerospace grade aluminum alloy with a hard anodized construction, making the flashlight heat-resistant, scratch-resistant, lightweight, and extremely durable. The Mi6 is impact resistant up to 1 meter so it can withstand most accidental drops. It’s also waterproof up to IPX8 standards so you can take it out in the rain and not worry about it.

The Mi6 is perfect for multiple situations from everyday carry to camping to work. It’s compact enough that it’s easy to carry around and even has a little keyring hole on the tail. It delivers a good amount of light allowing you to see up close with a decent maximum runtime of 3 hours. Whatever it is you have in mind, the Mi6 is an excellent tool to have. Batteries included.

Mi6 Review

This light is pretty much as described. The type (keychain 1xAAA), look, size, beam spread description, and two mode brightness options were all things that appealed to me about this light. The 30 lumen mode is adequate for navigating around the house at night, and the 120 lumen mode for walking outside. Two of the biggest pros for me was its size and unique look. First of all, due to its design, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a smaller 1xAAA light. This thing is tiny! I have slim fingers, and the Mi6 seems to be smaller in length and diameter than my pinky finger! Perfect if like me you want something you can fit in your coin pocket. Also, I wanted something kinda special, something that didn’t look like the majority of the 1xAAA lights out there. This is that. It holds up very well to being dropped and the o-ring ensures it stays functional in the rain. Now for the cons. Even after cleaning and lubing the threads the head is so tight it still always takes me using both hands to operate it! Ive never owned a 1xAAA or keychain light that couldn’t be operated with one hand. The other thing is the battery seems to connect to the light engine intermittently when twisting it On/Off. It will always go on. But depending on how the light engine connected when UNtwisting it, it will sometimes turn on High first, then Low (if you keep twisting), and sometimes Low, then High (if you keep twisting). But sometimes it seems to bypass a mode and go straight to Low or High even if you twist it all the way around from off. Perhaps I got a faulty one? I dont know. The light works in the sense that it always comes on, but the user doesn’t always know whether they’ll get High or Low, or whether it will remain in that mode if they keep twisting. If they DON’T keep twisting to the end of the rotation then even a tap on the light can either temporarily turn the light off or change its mode (but you never know which one!) ....very annoying when you just want a solid light on a constant brightness to see with. Because of these issues I can’t recommend the light as an EDC, because its not really that handy. It is however extremely small, bright, and impact resistant. I could therefore recommend it as a backup or secondary hiking or emergency light. However buyer beware (parasitic battery drain)-the manufacturer recommends removing the battery when storing the light for long periods of time (e.g. months).

Awesome Keychain Flashlight

Author: Carolyn

To say that I'm impressed with the recent smaller Klarus everyday carry flashlights would be quite the understatement. Every time they come out with a new mini flashlight, each one is always so innovative, unique, and different. Each one has its own purpose and yet they're very versatile in application. They recently came out with the Klarus Mi6. This is a very small flashlight. It is considered a key chain flashlight although it is a little bit larger than what you might expect. Not too much larger though as it is a little less than two and a half inches in length. So it still fits perfectly on your key ring without taking up too much space which is perfect. Part of what makes this flashlight excellent is that it is a AAA battery powered flashlight. Many keychain flashlights are minuscule and come with a small 10180 lithium ion battery. Of course usually these keychain flashlights are USB rechargeable. However the Mi6 uses a simple AAA battery which is excellent because these batteries are common household items. Often people will have packs of them in their house to power other electronics they may have. They are also incredibly easy to find and very inexpensive. This alone makes the Mi6 an excellent excellent keychain flashlight if you are on a budget or if you are a new everyday carry user. Not only that but if you believe that one of your friends could use a keychain flashlight or you're encouraging them to become an everyday carry flashlight user the Mi6 is perfect. It even has a battery that is included with the flashlight so when you purchase it it's all ready to go.

As for protection, the Mi6 has a reverse polarity protection which means that if you load the battery in incorrectly there will be no damage done to the flashlight or the battery. Again this is a really great feature to have whether you're a beginner flashlight user or a seasoned flashlight user. There are times whenever I'm a little scattered or distracted and may insert the battery incorrectly so that protection is definitely great to have whether you are a longtime user or not.

Powerful AAA Flashlight

Okay, so let's get into some of the other features of the Mi6. It delivers a maximum output of 120 lumens and has a maximum beam distance of 40 meters. Now 120 lumens is a great amount of light for a AAA battery flashlight. The Mi6 is one of the most powerful and best flashlights that you will find that can be equipped with a AAA battery. The LED is a CREE XP G3 LED so you have a great high quality LED that you can rely on. And the lens of the Mi6 is an optical TIR lens and this kind of lens diffuses the light very evenly and very softly. When working with any EDC flashlights, specifically keychain flashlights, Having that nice diffused flood is really useful. It gives you a good amount of light up close allowing you to see a good decent area. You have two brightness levels to choose from. You've got that high that's 120 lumens and the low that's 30 lumens. It's important to note with this flashlight as with any other key chain flashlight, that the run times are not super long. So in that high brightness level with a fully charged battery you have a 45 minute run time. In the low mode you've got a three hour run time so I would recommend using it more in the low mode rather than the high mode. You might find yourself changing out the battery a little more often using it in a high mode. The high mode is excellent for short bursts of power if you need it if you need quite a bit of light. It's great for that, but you'll find that 30 lumens is sufficient to do many everyday tasks.

The Mi6 has a twist switch is nice. So you simply just rotate the head of the flashlight to turn it on, to cycle through the brightness levels, and turn it off. The twist which is a really great design because you're easily able to turn the flashlight on and operate it using a single hand while it remains on your keychain. You'll notice on the head of the flashlight where you'll be rotating it, it has a textured design and this allows you to easily grip the head of the flashlight and twist the switch as needed. So you don't need to worry about fumbling around with it. You can easily turn it on and turn it off. This is an essential feature of any EDC flashlight. Once again, particularly keychain flashlights, you want something that's easy to use, that doesn't cause any issues, and that is quite an asset to your everyday carry tools.

Durable and Sturdy

Speaking of the body of the flashlight, the Mi6 is crafted from aerospace grade aluminum alloy with a hard anodized finish. That finish gives that really great sleek look to it and you'll see the Mi6 is scratch resistant and incredibly durable. It is impact resistant up to 1 meter and is waterproof up to IPX8 standards. This means that you can submerge the six into two meters of water for 30 minutes and the flashlight will still work perfectly fine. So if you find yourself caught in a rainstorm or perhaps you accidentally drop your flashlight into a puddle, your flashlight should work just fine. No worries. That being said definitely do not go around tossing your flashlight into water. That is just a no no. You'll notice that on the tail end of Mi6 you'll see a little key ring. This allows the Mi6 to be put on your key ring with no issues at all. It's really a great everyday carry flashlight to keep on your key chain.

Why a Keychain Flashlight?

Now I really like to take a couple minutes to talk about why having a flashlight on your key ring is so important. Now I do have a few different everyday carry flashlights. However there are times when I will not bring one where I go. This could be because I forget it at home or because I don't have the right pockets to be carrying an everyday carry flashlight or something else along those lines. However, even when I leave these flashlights behind thinking that I probably will not need one, I find myself usually needing one. And that's where my key chain flashlight comes in handy. I need to look in some dark corner or I dropped my card or some money underneath my car seat and I need to check out where that is. That's where that little tiny flashlight comes in handy. I know some people like using the lights on their phones. I personally don't. I find my phone a little too large to look into some of the smaller places that my keychain flashlight can get into. I've used my keychain flashlight to check the engine of a friend's car that was having some issues before. And you'll be surprised how often in the middle of the day you'll be using that key chain flashlight because there are times we need to search in dark corners or perhaps a light in a room won't turn on or what have you and those little flashlights come in handy. It's really great for everyone to be carrying one of these types of everyday carry flashlights and a keychain flashlight is particularly useful because you have it with you all the time. I can guarantee that if you were to purchase the Mi6 and put it on your key ring you will find many different instances within the first month that you will be using that keychain flashlight. Of course this is if you remember to use it. But you will be finding that it really is going to come in handy more than you might think.

So all in all we are thoroughly impressed with the Klarus Mi6. It is a really great flashlight because it's got that AAA battery that it uses, it's a great size, it has that optical TIR lens so you get that nice diffused light. It's a simple, high-quality, easy to use flashlight that doesn't break the bank. So if you're looking for a new keychain flashlight definitely check out the Klarus Mi6 because you'll be pleasantly surprised by what you see.
