I used the lantern for 2 1/2 weeks of deer hunting. We used the light in our cabin that has no electricity. We had to go through 3 sets of batteries and that was because 1 of the cells started to leek acid in the lantern witch was easy to clean out. It out shined and out lasted the old 8 cell lanterns we had. We used it as a yard light when we loaded and unloaded our trucks in the morning and evening when we returned home. The only problem we had was that the light derectly below the lantern is not the best for reading and you have to be careful to not cross thread the base when changing batteries or not let the kids do it. For a battery lantern its great I bought this for ice fishing for the reason of not using gas and the chance of a burn accident in the ice house and used it for hunting first it was a good test of the lantern. Our duo mantel gas lantern gives off more light which is nice but it gives off more heat and you have to listen to the sound of the gas as it burns. 1 year we had someone bump into a gas light on the ceiling and it melted in to everything the glass touched when it hit the floor and shattered no one hurt. The hook is great lantern stayed hanging after being bumped when hanging and the base is stable for stand alone. I don't know how dim setting is never used it. We plain on buying 2 to 3 more for the cabin because of the bright lite and safety around the little kids.

This arrived just in time for a windstorm and the resulting 20 hour power outage. While it is heavier than some lanterns I own (due to the 4 D cell batteries), it is also at least twice as bright. If I only could choose one light to have for the next power outage this would be the one.

Took this little guy camping in the Nebraska National Forest. Used it several times. This one will light up the whole camp site, guaranteed. I cant tell you how long the batteries last in it. As the ones I originally put in are still going strong.
