These flashlights are made from aircraft-grade aluminum, black anodized for pleasing aesthetics. The lens is made from a very solid tempered glass that feels extremely solid (compared to the thin feel when you tap on a lower quality flashlight). All Pila models product a very bright and evenly distributed light. The Pila Flashlight System The beauty of the Pila design are the modular upgrades. This flashlight system was designed so that many of the parts are interchangeable with other functionally different parts. This flashlight comes with a tactical pushbutton tailcap. Until recently we've just used this light to walk the dog (a little overkill, but it was nice to see so far). We were recently hit with the midwest flooding, and this light was used to help clear out our flooded basement.
Without power for lights, I could use this light to power through a foot of water so I could see the bottom of the sump pump pit to look for blockages. I didn't want to stick my hand down there without seeing first, and this light was powerful enough to cut through the murky water.

The beam intensity is great, but a knurled grip would be it's only feature that it needs. The value for its size and type of light are great.
